SO GOOD.
I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

2nd time reading this as part of my February "Love Month" in which I am re-reading a large chunk of the books I've marked as favorites over the years to see if they are still truly favorites or if they were only a favorite because they struck at the right time/place in my life.
My feelings have not shifted much from those I had in my original review. Except I don't remember crying this much. Seriously. I start choked sob crying pretty much every time Viola says "Todd" and Todd says (out loud or simply through his Noise) "Viola." I love, love, love the two of them together.
This is so action packed and dark and full of difficult and flawed decisions. There are a handful of characters (both loved and hated) from Book #1 and then a bunch of interesting (to both love and hate) new characters as well. The New World setting is just as intriguing as it was in the first book - even more so now that we see more of the Spackles (this world's alien race) - and the Noise and/or lack of Noise continues to be both a blessing and a curse.
Happy to report that this is still a favorite.
And it is still 5 Stars

I have no words. Ok, I have some. I love this book. I love it in an "I stayed up half of the night to finish it and wasn't even upset about only getting 3 hours of sleep because I was still loving it so much the next morning. I love it in an "I may quite possibly never listen to a book recommendation by someone who DIDN'T like this book." I have been walking around promoting this book like it's my job.
Note: I am not a sci-fi fan - having said that, I am not one because I hadn't read it previously but may now if it comes even close to this.
The Ask and the Answer picks up right where the first one left off. There is no big recap offered, which I appreciated. I feel like there is not much I can say without giving something important away. This book is even more intense than the first. I felt like there wasn't a breather to ease any tension from page to page to page - loved that. Todd and Viola became even more flawed, yet my love for them only increased. Patrick Ness found a way to make me connect with these characters, to CARE about the characters. I'm pretty sure that if I discover Todd or Viola dies in the last one, I'll be mourning in my bed for days.

Second and third in the series were disappointing to me, with their focus on war. I don't know why every story has to be so large -- just tell me a little one.
