The Art Of War

Many of Sun Tzu's ideas are common-sense enough, but succinctly put here. It's a quick, easy read, so it's not hard to make the case that it's worth the time. But gliding through it effortlessly will make it difficult for the ideas to really stick. So I guess it's also easy to make the case for at least one re-read. I'll probably give it another go myself in the near future, but for now I'm happy with the bits and pieces I've gleaned. It certainly didn't change my life or anything, but then I didn't expect it to.

The title of this book is a bit deceptive since there is a multitude of applications for the knowledge held inside, and since it is actually meant to teach you how to win without fighting by giving you the tools to outthink your opps rather than outfighting them. Ever heard the phrase “divide and conquer” or “keep your friends close but your enemies closer”? Those ideals came from this nifty little piece of literature! None of us are war generals (as far as I know) but we all can benefit greatly from making strategically sound decisions, especially in tough situations. I personally use this book as the ultimate guide for chess strategy, but have found it useful in many other areas too, like mathematics. From business to sports to board games, this book has something to offer everyone. It's a quick read, but may take some time to grasp the concepts and creatively apply them to your own life.

Defiantly some good tips in here. I can see why other countries armies are so well disciplined if they still use these tactics. Some of them could also work for dealing with people as well. Some handy things in here.

It's easy to read, but he repeats things a lot, and some of the sentence are worded strangely. And then, some lines are written like poetry.

It was a something different, and I'm glad I picked it up.

It's The Art of War, just read it.
