The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

Nicholas Flamel appeared in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter—but did you know he really lived? And his secrets aren't safe! Discover the truth in book one of the New York Times bestselling series the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel.
The truth: Nicholas Flamel's tomb is empty.
The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives.
Nicholas Flamel is the greatest Alchemyst to ever live. The records show that he died in 1418, but what if he's actually been making the elixir of life for centuries?
The secrets to eternal life are hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It's the most powerful book that has ever existed, and in the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. And that's exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it.
There is one hope. If the prophecy is true, Sophie and Josh Newman have the power to save everyone. Now they just have to learn to use it.
“The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel has everything you loved about Harry Potter, including magic, mystery, and a constant battle of good versus evil.”—Bustle

Because I read the Cane Chronicles, all to read my favorite Baste is a bad guy is disheartening. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Sob...it's okay. Give me a moment. :(
Okay, on with my review. It peaked my interest if I can get over some of the notion that some of the gods are now bad guys. The characters are very engaging and there is definately good development. Josh is the one to watch. We get sparks of him going to the dark side.
Pherenelle get captured by John Dee, another immortal and she is a powerful magician. Her husband, not so much. He is a genius Alchemyst. While it does have him deplicted as the star of the book, you find yourself, or at least I do, more interested in the twins and their journey. I do adore Schatach, the little dynamo warrior.
John grabbed the last two pages of the Codex and Dee wants them back. He sends a morgan and Baste to rain hell on the twins and Nicholas Flammel just to retrieve the last two pages back. He serves the Dark Elders. Question is...who does Nicholas and Pherri serve? Hmmmm, that's the question he poses to Josh and now, Josh always has that in mind and starts to mistrust Nicky. Can't blame Josh because Nicky never tells anyone everything.
For instance, Nick takes the twins to Heckete, to awaken the twins magical powers. Turns out, by doing so, she might kill the twins. Nicky firmly believed their aura is so strong, they would have survived but he neglected to tell them that. Heckete only had the chance to awaken Sophie's power and now, Josh suddenly feels left out and a sliver of envy bc they are no longer the same. This feeling is nurtured by John Dee.
