I've had Such A Rush on my TBR pile since it had a title. I even bought it soon after its release, yet, hadn't read it. It just kind of sat there, collecting dust. I loved her book, Going Too Far, so I am not too sure where my hesitation came in when it came to reading this. After all that time, I now see why. Such a Rush wasn't what I was expecting. I blame that horrible crafted blurb. A rush from flying. A love triangle. A deadly scheme. What I got was... well, some of that. I experienced two emotions while reading this book. Anger and boredom.
I feel like i should do a complete summary of this book they way it should be. But really, I won't waste my time. Let's just break it down, shall we?
The plot-- As I mentioned, I thought I was heading into this with an angsty filled love triangle, intense and deadly scheme. Dare devilish behavior. Yeaaaaah. NO. (OK, back up. We know what they say about assuming. So, maybe this is my fault?!) The plot my friends, was Grayson freaking Hall blackmailing Leah into working for him and dating his brother. And for what? Well, it isn't as climactic as it seemed. Trust me. All the while, Leah is battling feeeeeelings for Grayson, even though is a complete douche bag. And what he used to blackmail her with? REALLY? I just don't understand the severity of it. "Deadly consequences?" WHERE!? Explain this to me because that must have flown right over my head. (HA! pun intended) Love triangle? er... NO.
The characters-- Leah was a bitch. A whiny, slut shaming good for nothing bitch. I get having a tough skin, especially due to her upbringing, but she made it extremely difficult to relate and feel sorry for her. Example one- she was constantly commenting about what her mother had and had NOT provided for her. All the while, she is hoarding money. I get it. She wanted things in life and was saving for that. But don't sit there and turn it around that you don't have food because of her when you have means to provide for yourself. If your mother is never home and leaves you, for YEARS, don't act surprised when she doesn't leave you any food. Example two- slut shaming. I hate it and Leah did it all.the.time. Her constant "rich bitch", "whore" and "trailer trash" comments were irritating. Not to mention, why wouldn't she correct anyone on their assumptions? Just say, "Hey, y'all! I am not a whore" and be done with it. I could go on and onnnnnn about her.
Grayson was a class A douche bag.. His comments about Leah that she flew for sex-- with his DAD, the black mailing, his need to control everyone/everything. He treated Leah like shit, his brother like shit. EVERYTHING Grayson is just.. ARG. Not sexy, people.
Alec-- well, he was OK. I guess-- but he does carry a small douchery badge that he flashes at the end. And the best friend, Molly. I just.. no comment.
Side notes-- I didn't like the control that Grayson tried to have over Alec and Leah. I didn't like the fact that, even though Leah crushed on Grayson for YEARS, she still jumped his bones, after everything he said and did.. I didn't like Grayson pushing Leah towards Alec, even after he screwed her in her bed. I didn't like the snarky and rude comments about the military. Basically, I just didn't like it. The only saving grace was the descriptions when she flew. I thought that was pretty awesome.
Overall- No. Just.. NO. I didn't like it. In some ways, I can see a lot of others liking it (Shit, it has pretty decent reviews on goodreads) Not for me.
