Stone Cold Fox

A perfectly wicked debut thriller about an ambitious woman who, after a lifetime of conning alongside her mother, wants to leave her dark past behind and marry the heir to one of the country's wealthiest families.

*now including a special bonus chapter!

Like any enterprising woman, Bea knows what she’s worth and is determined to get all she deserves—it just so happens that what she deserves is to marry rich. Filthy rich. After years of forced instruction by her mother in the art of swindling men, a now-solo Bea wants nothing more than to close and lock the door on their sordid partnership so she can disappear safely into old-money domesticity, sealing the final phase of her escape.

When Bea chooses her ultimate target in the fully loaded, thoroughly dull and blue-blooded Collin Case, she’s ready to deploy all of her tricks one last time. The challenge isn’t getting the ring, but rather the approval of Collin’s family and everyone else in their 1 percent tax bracket, particularly his childhood best friend, Gale Wallace-Leicester.

Going toe-to-toe with Gale isn’t a threat to an expert like Bea, but what begins as an amusing cat-and-mouse game quickly develops into a dangerous pursuit of the grisly truth. Finding herself at a literal life-and-death crossroads with everything on the line, Bea must finally decide who she really wants to be.

Like mother, like daughter?

This was about a badass con artist who got to learn all the tricks of the trade by her mother. Full of characters you love to hate but cant put down. Read this in 3 days. Cat and mouse chase thriller.

I don’t know why this book is. 3.67 on Goodreads, because it was SO GOOD! The author, Rachel Koller Croft, did a FABULOUS job of painting the characters in the most detailed way. In addition, the twists had my heart nearly leaping out of my chest with beats faster than a bullet train. I thought Rachel wrapped the story up nicely, also. If you’re a fan of the tv show Imposters, YOU MUST read this book!

“The bi+ch of back and we’re both in heat.” ~Bea

As I’m reading this debut novel, I keep thinking of the song by Kanye West called, “Gold Digger.” For those who don’t know it, here is a sample of his lyrics:
"...Now I ain't sayin' you a gold digger, you got needs..."

We meet Bea who is a self-proclaimed “user” and Collin Case will be her greatest and last mark. Her damaged, harsh, and exceptionally cold upbringing by the best female con artist is non-other than her mother. She learned what is like to fight for money, how to con men out of it, and always travel light. Any gifts from men, make sure those things can be sold at a moment’s notice if needed. Bea knew enough to always keep her earned money in bank accounts, foreign and domestic, and in the stock market. Have a light footprint when it came to material goods. Never attach meaning to anything at risk of not being permanent. That is how Bea had always lived her life and it has served her well.

Her nemesis comprises Collin Chase’s family which includes Collin’s parents, Hayes, and Haven, his two siblings, Chloe and Calliope, and his very best friend, who also happens to be female and in love with Collins, Gale Wallace-Leicester. Oh, how could I forget, Bea’s mother?

So if Bea is the vixen who is supposed to be the “uber” bad villain, why is it that I am so drawn to her when I should rightfully be rooting for Gale? Oh, the matching of the hostile verbiage and constant besting each other when those two are within inches of each other… riveting! Somebody, get the scratching post out!

I felt the book was witty, engaging, and exceptionally entertaining. A wonderful guilty pleasure reading!

I have to confess, this debut novel by this author was truly a joy to read. I did not think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did but it was spellbinding. I ripped through it and wanted more! Please, sequel!!!

It’s OK. Not great. You have to convince yourself that just about everyone in the book is too dumb to figure out who she is.
