Still Life with Woodpecker: A Novel

A startlingly original novel from the New York Times bestselling author hailed by Financial Times as “one of the wildest and most entertaining novelists in the world”
“[Tom] Robbins’s comic philosophical musings reveal a flamboyant genius.”—People
Still Life with Woodpecker is a sort of a love story that takes place inside a pack of Camel cigarettes. It reveals the purpose of the moon, explains the difference between criminals and outlaws, examines the conflict between social activism and romantic individualism, and paints a portrait of contemporary society that includes powerful Arabs, exiled royalty, and pregnant cheerleaders. It also deals with the problem of redheads.
“Robbins is a fabulous storyteller.”—The Boston Globe

this book was so strange, oscillating btwn 3 and 4 stars. no linear storytelling here really but genuinely laugh out loud funny and when i did follow the story it was great. lots of meandering and whimsical anecdotes.
I didn't get it! I mean, I get the crazy love story between the red-headed princess Leigh-Cheri and the red-headed bomber with bad teeth, Bernard Mickey Wrangle, and their quest to "make love stay," but... is it me or does this guy just like to ramble on & on about NOTHING??? All disguised as witty repartee. It just gets tiresome after a while. Then in between all that nonsense there are chapters about his typewriter, the Remington SL3. What???
As Queen Tilli, mother of Leigh-Cheri, would say: "Uh-oh, Spaghetti-O!"
