Beautiful novel, with unexpected twists & turns that highlight a couples struggle with infertility, loss, and emotional intimacy. Interwoven with Nigerian culture, which made the novel more fascinating.
This one was a heartbreaker. Yejide is a woman tormented. By infertility and a childhood without a mother. Her story book marriage becomes a nightmare of self recrimination in the face of traditional expectations of motherhood. Once she finally bears children, they are stricken with sickle cell disease. So much sadness.
This book did so many things to me.
It touched a rarely discussed topic dear to my heart - sickle cell anemia disease.
It was authentic, almost tangible and my goodness Ayobami can weave tales!
Loved this book! It was way more heartbreaking and tender than I expected & the *drama*. Oh my goodness.
