Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You: A Remix of the National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning

By Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds

Don't miss this "fresh and conversational" (TIME Magazine), "potent and provocative" (The San Francisco Chronicle), #1 New York Times bestselling exploration of racism--and antiracism--in America.

This is NOT a history book. This is a book about the here and now.
A book to help us better understand why we are where we are.
A book about race.

The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. Racist ideas are woven into the fabric of this country, and the first step to building an antiracist America is acknowledging America's racist past and present. This book takes you on that journey, showing how racist ideas started and were spread, and how they can be discredited.

Through a gripping, fast-paced, and energizing narrative written by beloved award-winner Jason Reynolds with research from renowned bestselling author Ibram X. Kendi, Stamped shines a light on the many insidious forms of racist ideas--and on ways you can identify and stamp out racist thoughts, leading to a better future. I read this as it is part of the home school curriculum I will be using with my grandson. It is clearly written and very engaging, and includes lots of facts I was not aware of. Now he can read this one, and I will need to read the adult version- Stamped from the Beginning - to Get the historical details in more depth.

Excellent introduction to racism and antiracism, especially in America. Reynolds manages to cover a lot of information in very few pages. If you're an adult like me, it's a good starting point that can be easily expounded on by picking up the original book, Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi, or any of the other reading material Reynolds recommends at the back of the book. I learned new things, but also Reynolds manages to clarify things I knew but still found a bit confusing, like the true history of Abraham Lincoln and more modern racist policies, like the "War on Drugs". Absolutely should be required reading!

Y'all. This book is eye-opening and informational and inspiring. I listened to the audiobook and if you can, DO IT! Jason Reynolds reading his own writing is amazing. His flow and power and verve is great. I'm also going to read the physical copy of this book and I'll more than likely read the original by Dr. Ibram X Kendi. I want to read his full research.

Read it and allow yourself to be convicted and uncomfortable. You are more than likely reading this book because you want to know the real history and how you can do more than scroll and post your opinions on social media. Let yourself feel uncomfortable or guilty. And then do something to change yourself and uplift those that have been oppressed.
