Someone Else's Ocean

"Heart-stirring. Moving. Magnificent." - Heather, Diary of a Book Fiend
The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old and we shared a summer beneath the stars.
The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew. Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life's cruelty, but we were planets apart. We'd both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars...until we both got swept away.

8.5 ⭐️ stars honestly and not because of the writing style because this style from Kate was way different than the other books I've read from her. This read was a slow drag for me at times, but I choose this rating because of the storyline she provided, the challenges faced and the two amazing strong characters.
The prologue really brings you in fast and hard. Normally I don't enjoy reading Prologues because they don't really serve a purpose for me and I find them to be boring most times. This one was the complete opposite. The first 10 ish chapters did seem pretty slow but not a terrible slow. If that even makes sense. I've never read a book that incorporated sign language into the book along with education. I thought that was absolutely beautiful for the author to do that. Truly a beautiful read that showed difficulties and struggles the characters faced that a lot of us in real life face ourselves. I really felt connected to Koti and her situation with her mother, anxiety and views on death. Several times I found myself writing down quotes that were said and crying because I could feel her pain and even happiness at times. A wonderful read!
