I am going to start off by saying I did like the concept and theory of this book. Sisters (Maya and Naomi) sharing college experiences together, one will stop at nothing to get answers for the others murder. I was in fortunate enough to receive this book in January of this year. With that being said, it took me that long to get through it.
In the beginning of the book, I thought this was going to be a one sitting read. I enjoyed the dual POV and the two settings, than toward the middle, it slowed way down. I felt like the story started to lose itself in the second half and started to lose its luster for me.
I know this book did not work for me, but that does not mean it may not work for others. It was not a bad book, it just was a bit longwinded for me, as a thriller.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an early copy to read in exchange for my honest review

The beginning was slow and confusing with the constant change in time periods. It peaked my interest around Chapter 3 and was easy to read after that. This book is about a murder at Princeton and a relationship between two sisters and college friends. The ending was unexpected but overall pleasing. I would have liked to see the relationship between the sisters evolve after this decade long secret was revealed.
I have mixed feelings about this one. There were moments when I considered putting it down entirely, yet somehow I couldn’t stop turning the pages. The story contains several potential triggers—strong alcohol use, drug use, domestic abuse, grooming, racial issues, and strained parent–child relationships—so it’s not always an easy read.
That said, it was ultimately worth it. The depiction of “secret societies” felt unsettlingly plausible, the kind of thing you could imagine happening behind closed doors. As a debut novel, it’s an impressive, darkly compelling start, and I’m genuinely excited (and a little nervous) to see what twisted thrillers this author delivers next.
I listened to this book on my Libby app while traveling and I was really disappointed. It was a whole lot of nothing, until the last hour. If I wasn't committed to finishing it and finding out "who done it", I would have turned it off after the first hour.
“How often, in the world, is silence what allows horrible people to get away with their crimes?”
This was just okay for me. Pacing is everything in a suspense and I found it didn't grab me early enough, and by the time the twisty stuff started to happen it was like a run-away train.
