4.5 stars
It’s really no surprise that I really enjoyed this one. Not only does it deal with realistic elements but it’s a Mystery. I love mysteries. Six Months Later was a brilliantly crafted story that will reel you in from page 1 and keep you guessing throughout the entire book.
Chloe wakes up in her class room to snow, a new outfit and a huge whole in her memory. With no recollection of the past six months, she is confused and scared. It’s apparent right off the bat that her life has taken a drastic turn and that she has changed. With good grades, boyfriend whom she has crushed on for years and sadly, the loss of her best friend. Instead of grabbing her new “life” by the horns, she is desperate for answers. What she discovers is way beyond what she had ever imagined.
This book is brilliant. BRILLIANT! I like to think I am relatively good at figuring about all the WTFery but here, in Six Months Later, I had no idea what was up until very close to the end. The subtle clues were there, and were constantly nagging at my psyche, but then something else would happen and my loyalties would flip or my thoughts on what really DID happen to Chloe would change. It’s pretty fast paced, with something new developing almost every chapter. I was never overwhelmed at all and I found myself glued and totally engrossed as the story progressed. I also liked that initial chapter in the beginning where we get to see Chloe before her memory is wiped. Right off, you can tell she is rebellious and strong, sticking up for her best friend Maggie.
Chloe is such a real and like able character. She is funny, witty, smart and loyal. I could easily see anyone try to adjust to her their life, but her desperation to find out what happened to her kept her for doing just that. And although her memory was gone, she still FELT a certain way about things and had responses that confused her even more. Example; Adam. Adam, the town “bad boy”, whom Chloe never gave a second glance to until apparently… Six Months Later. I liked Adam. Sure, he was a little rough around the edges but he was sweet, very protective and just all around a great guy.
Aside from the larger picture of WHAT HAPPENED TO CHLOE, there are the other small mysteries I loved trying to figure out. Her relationship with Maggie, Adam and Blake. Her sudden spike in academics. Everything was slowly pieced together, bit by bit. All the twists were shocking. O_O
All that aside, I find myself always sweating the small stuff or being “hung up” on the minor details. Which brings me to the WHY and the HOW. I can’t get into it, obviously, but I would have liked a little bit more details to those two pesky little details.
Overall- LOVED it. If you love a good mystery, fantastic characters and twists that will have you reeling, Six Months Later is the book for you. Brilliant! I highly recommend this one.
