I love themed anthologies. Given my love of horror and that I spent part of my childhood in Asia, I was especially looking forward to this anthology, named by the New York Public Library as one of the best horror books of 2025. I’ve read 13 horror anthology in the past year, and this is by far my least favorite. If not for the high accolades, I wouldn’t have finished it. There are a few good stories, but most of them just aren’t very interesting. One of the stories I enjoyed borrowed too heavily from Scott Spencer’s novel, “The Ruins.” Notably missing from this anthology are stories by prominent Asian authors such as Alma Katsu and Cassandra Khaw, Monica Kim, and Ling Ling Huang, just to name a few. I’m curious as to the reason why…
