This was the highest rated stand alone book on my ebook list. It was a very cute time slip story, and like the MMC I wish it had ended like in a movie. Even tho histfic isn't really something I seek out, I did enjoy this shorty by Kate Quinn and will prob check out her other books just to see if they compare.
I’ve never read anything by Kate Quinn, so when I was invited to read her latest short story and promote it on my blog, I was curious. I think reading an author’s short stories is a wonderful way to be introduced to their style and see if I’d like to read more of their books. Plus, I was very intrigued with Signal Moon‘s synopsis. I’m so glad I picked this one up! Moving and well-executed, I had an instant connection with the characters and story. It’s available through Kindle Unlimited on Amazon!
From the very beginning I liked Lily. She’s smart and funny, determined to stay positive in the middle of Hitler’s devastating war. Her life is quite repetitive, spending hours listening to radio transmissions and taking notes, and she sometimes feels like what she’s doing isn’t helping enough. When she overhears a transmission from Matt, she’s struck by his humor and can’t resist returning to listen to him more. His voice soon turns from jovial to desperate and Lily helplessly listens, unequipped to respond, as his ship is attacked… in 2023.
Lily quickly passes the information on to her superior who tries to convince her it’s a hoax, which prompts Lily to take matters into her own hands. She finds a way to connect with Matt and warn him, and through this precarious connection, they form the most unlikely of friendships, spanning wars and years.
This short story only took me about an hour to read, but I could have spent many more hours in this world just listening to Lily and Matt talk to one another. Told through dual point of view, Quinn perfectly captured each of the characters’ time periods from their style of speaking to their personal thoughts. Heartwarming and heartbreaking, Signal Moon is the best kind of time travel story.

Very good short story. Anything by Kate Quinn ends up being good. This story set in the midst of WW2 and 2023 is no exception. Told from two different perspectives and she makes you feel for the characters. Her research is always exceptional which makes her books so good.
I don’t think I’ve ever written a review before but this was the most beautiful and touching story I’ve ever read I’m going to be thinking about this story until the day I die
