“Sex, Death, and Diane” features main character Sara in the 80’s as she transitions from an average teenage female to one diagnosed with Leukemia. This book reminded me of sitting with a mom or grandma and just listening to them tell stories from throughout their life. There was a nostalgic feel to the way the author wrote each chapter. I found it compelling in that it touched on many topics including mental health, the AIDS epidemic, Cancer, coming of age, sexuality (straight & queer), social justice, & death. I think the story overall was a diamond in the rough. With some polishing, editing, and additional proofreading I think this could be really great.
