Secrets Never Die

By Vincent Ralph

From New York Times bestselling author Vincent Ralph comes Secrets Never Die, a chilling new YA thriller about four teens whose dark secrets come back to terrorize them.

Some secrets should never have been buried . . .

We call it the Dark Place. I don’t know who built it or when but, for us, it’s special.

One night every year Sam Hall and his friends hold funerals for their secrets in an abandoned hut in the woods that they call the Dark Place. But this year, their secrets are taking on a life of their own.

Sam is a former child star whose career went up in flames—literally. And no one, not even his best friend knows why. His friends each hold a secret pertaining to the night. A secret they would all like buried.

Now someone from the past is blackmailing them with their dangerous secrets. Sam isn’t sure who he can trust, who’s watching him – or how far he’s willing to go to bury the past once and for all.

Man, this book was boring.

The scary and suspense aspects felt anything but and the revealed secrets weren't nearly as big as they were built up to be. And even when the characters reacted like they were huge dealbreakers, none of the characters really had a falling out. It was a split second, i hate you. Jk, we're fine, on to the plot.

Speaking of characters, none of the characters ever felt real or well-established. It took me 60% of the book to even remember who was who. And then randomly throwing in parents names and I had no idea who anyone was or why I should care about them.

And then the sudden switch from the kids to the parents POV and plotline was so out of left field. It felt as though the author had no idea where they were going and panic-changed where the story was going, and this direction made me care even less about the plot. Not to mention, the way it was provided was just a major info-dump instead of the kids finding more clues and actually making progress in the story.

Overall, this could have perhaps been a decent story, but it was poorly executed.

It was well put together. I enjoyed the smaller chapters as it made me feel accomplished. Definitely gave me thriller and then shock. I loved it.

Slow unraveling storyline, but well thought. I really like how much thought the author put into a long term outcome. It was really interesting story and book. Ending was unexpected and clever.
