Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories

Full of glimpses into gleaming worlds and fairy tales with teeth, Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories is a collection of acclaimed and awarded work from Amal El-Mohtar.

With confidence and style, El-Mohtar guides us through exquisitely told and sharply observed tales about life as it is, was, and could be. Like miscellany from other worlds, these stories are told in letters, diary entries, reference materials, folktales, and lyrical prose.

Full of Nebula, Locus, World Fantasy, and Hugo Award-winning and nominated stories, Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories includes "Seasons of Glass and Iron," "The Green Book," "Madeleine," "The Lonely Sea in the Sky," "And Their Lips Rang with the Sun," "The Truth About Owls," "A Hollow Play," "Anabasis," "To Follow the Waves," "John Hollowback and the Witch," "Florilegia, or, Some Lies About Flowers," "Pockets," and more.

amazing, i loved every moment <3

Favorites as of right now just having finishing the book (i see much rereads in my future so this might change!) :
- Seasons of Glass and Iron: a new all-time favorite
- Madeleine : same, also am i finally going to read Proust? (i fear reading in my own language lmao)
- And Their Lips Rang with the Sun: this will be in my head for some time ugh
- A Tale of Ash in Seven Birds : are you KIDDING me?? (favorite of COURSE)
- Qahr following A Tale of Ash in Seven Birds got me pausing the book for a few days because of emotional damage
- The Truth about Owls: oh yes another all time favorite thank you
- John Hollowback and the Witch: reread, it was included in my copy of The River has Roots, still an all-time favorite
- Florilegia; or, Some Lies About Flowers: another all time favorite :')

The other stories/poems are truly as beautiful as the rest of the collection, just didn't hit quite in the same way for me. And for most of them it's also because i am not used to reading poetry and/or it went over my head :') so my bad here :3

Each story from Amal El-Mohtar is a gift <3

Delightful collection of short stories, a mix of fantasy and speculative fiction that pull solidly from fairy tale structure and roots. Some sapphic content (nothing explicit so certainly suitable for late middle school or older audiences).
