I knew it was part of a series when I borrowed it from the library but I didn't know how much history Saving Graces would cover. I don't feel like it spoiled so much that I wouldn't read the first two books in the series--because the drama is there --but for other readers like myself who are interested in the series, that's something to keep in mind.
Although this is a sapphic contemporary romance the strongest theme for me was that of friendship. Savannah, Rosaline and Kinsey and Cassidy each had their own versions of codependency friendships that toed the romantic line here and there. But I liked that I could understand Rosalie much better through her past and relationship with Savannah. It went from her having an issue with Kinsey's age and more about her broken relationships history.

We don't see much of Kinsey's backstory--though considering she came from a supportive family I wasn't that surprised. It was refreshing to have a rather mature, self-aware and confident character like Kinsey pursue Rosalie and understand (mostly) that she wasn't as put together and confident as she appeared to be. And for her to be so forgiving made their relationship journey all the more bittersweet.
