After seeing the movie several times, I kept hearing Morgan Freeman's vocie when I was reading it. Fun read, and the movie did it a great justice by staying true to the story. Although, they made some changes when they transferred the book to the big screen but both versions were still a delight. Highly recommend this for anyone interested in a simple yet deep story about pushing forward in the most difficult of times.

The story of Andy Dufresne and his life at Shawshank. Andy was put in prison for the murder of his wife and her pro golfer lover. However is the story as it seems?

The story starts with Red talking about Andy and what had happened to get him into prison and what had happened in his first few months of prison, being gang raped by the "sisters".

Then everything changed for Andy Dufresne, he got involved with the warden of the prison helping sort out his finances; cooking the books and it wasn't just the warden he was doing this for, he helped out the officers too. This helped Dufresne with keeping his own cell with no bunk mate, he kept the peaceful life of the library and even got the "sisters" off his back.

Andy met another inmate by the name of Tommy, Tommy like Andy and he finally found out why he was in prison. This shocked Tommy, but for not the reason you think. Tommy was in prison previously with a guy named Elwood Blatch in which Elwood claimed he killed a pro golfer and his lover and her "hot shot lawyer" husband got the blame. Andy finds out and goes to speak to the warden, which does not end well for Andy.

Andy decides its time he left The Shank and turns out he's been working his way out for a long long time. His way out was hidden by some beauties such as Rita Hayworth, Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. Yes that's right these women were once posters in Andy's cell. Hidden behind the posters was a man-sized hole. On the day of March 12th 1975 Andy was no where to be seen. After a search of his cell his currently beauty on the wall Linda Ronstadt and the hole behind it was discovered.

Andy had things set up with an old buddy, a fake name and identity "Peter Stevens" with directions of where he was going and what he was doing to be doing. In which he told his trusted friend Red.

Red got parole in 1977, he went to the place where Andy told him about where his identity and information were going to be and when Red got there, there was $1000 and a letter addressed to him inviting him to go and stay with Andy down in Mexico.

I love the way this novel is wrote, like a narration and I can't help but hearing Morgan Freeman's voice when I read it. Such a great book, I highly recommend this to anyone. It was such a wonderful read and was pleasant throughout. I highly rate and recommend this book.
