I think I liked this one even more than the first! I was pretty surprised at the turn of events, I didn’t see a lot of it coming which I appreciated. This book had a lot of depth and complicated themes. I always appreciate grief in a story & it’s intertwinement in our lives. This duology was incredible & I’m sad to see the characters go but it was a perfect end
First, if you haven’t read Heartless Hunter, go do that first and then come back. Now, this book is SO GOOD! It provides a lot of context we were looking for after book one. I love the new dynamic we see between Rune and Gideon, and I truly enjoyed the evolution of both of their characters. It’s fast paced and packed with action that keeps us on our toes in the best way. I am so obsessed with this duology because it gives us our favorite romantasy aspects while also providing a unique magic system and its own twists and mysteries. I don’t know if all of my questions are answered but I feel that is the point. I believe we’re supposed to have some loose ends so we can make our own conclusions to allow us to be even more connected to this story. I felt so many emotions while reading this book which is one of the most telling things of a good book for me.

Absolutely loved it!
I really enjoyed both of these books, but they were quick reads. There was no lulls in either of these and the progression was great. Couldn’t put both down. Great writing style, but again I wish there was more. The ending was predictable while reading book 1 but that did not spoil the read as I would never have guessed the details of the ending… it was good! Cressida’s character was a great twist and surprise. But I kept thinking wouldn’t she have been more cruel in disguise? Or wouldn’t she like or maybe love Rune more? I guess that would ruin her all out villainy. I was team Gideon for sure, but I just was not convinced that I would love someone who tried to kill me publicly… but it made the torrid love stretch out more and give reason to believe, so maybe it was expert story planning after all.
