Pretty Things: A Novel

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Who’s really following you on social media? The scam of a lifetime brings together two wildly different women in this page-turning thriller about greed, legacy, and betrayal from the New York Times bestselling author of Watch Me Disappear.
An ID Book Club Selection • “It’s Dynasty meets Patricia Highsmith.”—The Washington Post
Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in L.A. alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Nina learned from the best: Her mother was the original con artist, hustling to give her daughter a decent childhood despite their wayward life. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet.
Vanessa is a privileged young heiress who wanted to make her mark in the world. Instead she becomes an Instagram influencer—traveling the globe, receiving free clothes and products, and posing for pictures in exotic locales. But behind the covetable façade is a life marked by tragedy. After a broken engagement, Vanessa retreats to her family’s sprawling mountain estate, Stonehaven: a mansion of dark secrets not just from Vanessa’s past, but from that of a lost and troubled girl named Nina.
Nina’s, Vanessa’s, and Lachlan’s paths collide here, on the cold shores of Lake Tahoe, where their intertwined lives give way to a winter of aspiration and desire, duplicity and revenge.
This dazzling, twisty, mesmerizing novel showcases acclaimed author Janelle Brown at her best, as two brilliant, damaged women try to survive the greatest game of deceit and destruction they will ever play.

Readers say *Pretty Things* is a gripping literary suspense with complex, well-drawn characters and surprising twists that keep you guessing. They app...
In the beginning it seemed like the story was trying too hard to show how Nina was "justified" in being the con artist she'd become, as though stealing from others is somehow better if you're doing something "noble" like helping your ailing mother. But the story grew more complex, and it was particularly devastating when Nina realized her mother's con. Vanessa also became a more complex and sympathetic character, although I was left wondering exactly how she knew so much about how to drop something off the Judy Bird yacht!
It was hard for me to get into this one at first, then I couldn't put it down! I love a good twist and this book had a few
This is a good thriller/suspense story. I just read that Nicole Kidman plans to produce and star in the book adaptation. Yay! This story has secrets, lies, twists all packed into a good con story.
Two completely different women are brought together by the scam of a lifetime. Nina Ross is a drifter, stealing from the rich in LA with her Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. She learned from the best; her mother was the original con artist. When her mom gets sick, Nina does whatever it takes to help her. She sets her sights on the Liebling family who she knows from her past. Vanessa Liebling is a self absorbed Instagram influencer without any real friends. She is shallow and lonely. When she retreats to her family estate in Lake Tahoe, her world collides with Nina. This is the perfect setting for revenge. But it might not be what you are expecting.

"Pretty things" is when "Big little lies" meets "revenge" and "little fires everywhere"..
Não sei se vai virar série, mas deveria sendo que ler as 500 páginas não se torna de todo uma tarefa difícil mas sim um prazer e um bom vício do qual não queremos sair

What a great start to a book! The characters quickly grabbed me and made me want more. The first half of the book made me understand why I love reading. As far as the second half I was really disappointed. I guess the characters had me thinking they were going to be like Robin Hood. Instead, a mother's betrayal, marriage just because, a murder like it's no big deal. I always know there are plot twists, but this one was way out in left field. Almost like one author wrote the first half and passed it off to another for the second half. Hopefully the Amazon series will be good.
