I didn't know I would cry this much 😭 I knew what was going to happen. I told myself I already knew everything but when Adena told her own story I became so attached and I didn't want to finish the book.
I made an effort and I don't regret finishing it. It was a great book.

Powerful may be a novella, but the emotional impact is anything but small. Adena’s story shattered me. As a seamstress, she wasn’t a warrior in the traditional sense, but the battles she fought—against impossible choices, against a world that took more than it ever gave—were just as brutal. Her connection with Makoto was beautifully written, full of quiet moments that carried so much weight. Every page felt like a countdown to heartbreak, and when it hit, it hit hard.
The relationships in this novella made every moment even more intense. The love, the loss, the sacrifices—it all unfolded with a devastating kind of inevitability. Adena’s strength was different from the fighters around her, but it was just as powerful, and seeing her hold onto what little she could in the face of everything was gut-wrenching.

Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. For a book where you know what happens to one of the main characters because of what happens in Powerless, this still fucking wrecked me. Devastatingly beautiful and heartbreaking story. Lauren has done it again. My heart simultaneously swelled and broke in two. I CANNOT RECOMMEND ENOUGH AFTER YOU READ POWERLESS. UFFDA.

If Powerless took my emotions on a rollercoaster, then Powerful shattered my heart and left me thanking it for the pain. This is an emotionally charged novella that somehow manages to outdo its predecessor in sheer intensity and heartbreak, in half the number of pages!
This story follows Adena, the best friend of the seriesâ FMC, and runs parallel to the events of Powerless. From the very first page, we already know how her story will end... and that knowledge makes every moment in this book cut even deeper. Watching Adena fight, love, and suffer, all while knowing the inevitable, makes Powerful the perfect companion for those of us who willingly sign up for emotional devastation.
Adena's journey is one of courage, sacrifice, and aching love, and even though I knew what was coming, it still wrecked me in the best way possible. If you enjoy books that punch you in the gut and leave you wanting more, Powerful is for you.
