I rented this book from the library for a Valentines thing and as a fellow Minnesotan like the author I was pleasantly surprised to find that the book is based mainly in Minneapolis; having read the book I recognized most of the places and the characters were very livid and full of color. It had humorous parts that made me smile and giggle , yet it also had bittersweet parts which made me feel sad wishing it never happened. Despite how it ended I enjoyed the journey through their lives and am happy I picked it up.

Minneapolitans - you might like this one. It's a quirky story about a pair of sisters who persevere through extreme circumstances to live and love and share their lives. So many adversities plague these sisters, you would think they would simply give up and cower. But no. They suffer and then pick themselves up and move ahead. Patty Jane's husband leaves her right before she gives birth to their daughter, and doesn't return until the girl is a teenager. Harriet has a whirlwind romance with a rich man who dies just before their wedding day. Both girls suffered at the hands of alcoholic parents, and yet the story is not depressing. These plucky women face their consequences with humor and music, always music! And the story is set in Mpls - although many names were unfamiliar to me...don't know if they were changed or I've just been away too long.
