Out on a Limb: A Novel

A hot one-night stand—and an unexpected pregnancy—lead a young woman to someone she can depend on, from the viral TikTok author of Next of Kin and Next to You.
“A beautiful love story, full of joy from beginning to end!”—New York Times bestselling author Sarah Adams
AN ELLE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR
Winnifred “Win” McNulty has always been wildly independent and not one to be coddled for her limb difference. Win has spent most of her life trying to prove that she can do it all on her own. With some minor adjustments, she’s done just fine.
Hooking up at a costume party with the incredibly charming Bo changes everything. Win finds herself pregnant—and decides to keep the baby. While Bo is surprisingly elated to step up to the plate, Win is unsure of whether she can handle this new challenge.
Together, Win and Bo decide to get to know one another as friends and nothing more while they embark on this parenting journey together. But, as they both should know by now, life rarely goes according to plan.

It all started at a Halloween house party when Winnifred–Win–“got knocked up by a pirate” and “left with a very expensive, lifelong party favour.” Win finds herself pregnant with “an accidental baby for an intentionally independent life,” all she can think about is “all the expressions there are just for moms. ‘She's going to have her hands full!’ Or ‘you're going to need an extra set of hands!’...It's intimidating. There are a lot of things I can barely do for myself, let alone for someone else.”--especially since Win was born with a limb difference. “You'd be amazed what you can do with one-and-a-half hands and a bull-like stubbornness.” But is she prepared to tackle motherhood single-handed?
Her baby daddy “Bo is a hottie with nice clothes, baby-news happy tears, a great sense of humour, a good job, and a house of his own”--as well as a prosthetic leg. “Maybe what we lack in limbs, we make up for in enthusiasm and wits…Two people leaving behind the worst, looking forward to the good to come.”
But are they both ready to leave everything behind and dance into the future “To the sound of nothing but each other's withering restraint. Accepting that this is the best thing that could have happened to us. To get us out of our own personal dark spots. To give us purpose. To find each other. Because even though we aren't together, I can no longer imagine a version of my life without Bo in it. Bo is simply lovely. Plain and true and all-encompassing.”
“This book is a lot more than a one-night stand turned baby. It's about learning to let someone see the messy, needier parts of you. It's learning to be loved well as you are and accept help. It's about challenging expectations and overcoming obstacles. It's disabled joy.” And a tribute to “folks of all shapes, sizes, abilities, and understandings” worthy and deserving of love, too. I hope you love Bo and Win as much as I did! Hannah Bonham-Young’s Out on a Limb is out of this world!
I thought this was such a cute read, a great palate cleanser. Good banter and pretty witty at times. I was rooting for these characters
Surprise pregnancy is not my favorite trope, but this story was executed so well!! Bo and Win were lovable and relatable! I loved their story so much! They both embraced their disabilities which was so refreshing!! Their humor and banter was amazing!!!
Rating 4 stars because we only got the Win’s POV, I would have loved reading Bo’s thoughts…he was so very lovable!!
I believe this the author’s second book! I will definitely read her first book, Next of Kin and am looking forward to future books!!

I CANNOT sing enough praises for this book! It was so much better than expected. I loved the connections between the characters and the complexity of their individual issues. The author does such a wonderful job of sucking you into their drama and making you feel their emotional turmoil. I wish I could read this again for the first time.
