One Second After (A John Matherson Novel, 1)

A post-apocalyptic thriller of the after effects in the United States after a terrifying terrorist attack using electromagnetic pulse weapons.

New York Times
best selling author William R. Forstchen now brings us a story which can be all too terrifyingly real...a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war that will send America back to the Dark Ages...A war based upon a weapon, an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP). A weapon that may already be in the hands of our enemies.

Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future...and our end.

A chilling tale of what the world would look like if suddenly, out of the blues, there was No Electricity. And this means no battery powered devices, nothing. All electronic chips "fried".
The bleak, morbid and scary picture painted by the author is more so true for America than any other nation, but still the disastrous effects would be similar for most of the other nations.

Another thing that caught me by surprise was the author's writing skills , especially in case of a depressing scene. I found myself actually experiencing some of the scenes in the book and could feel what the characters must be feeling right then.

I think this is a good read.

This book was a heavy read. It’s terrifying to think something like this could happen. This book dives into the horrors we could face as unprepared citizens if an EMP attack was carried out, I cried several times and won’t forget this book.

Just a heart breaking story of a small town in North Carolina when the United States is hit with emp bombs. The writer did such a good job of covering so many scenarios that would happen. Terrifying!!!

I made it to page 91. It might be a good story/warning, but I couldn't get past the sexist undertones.
