One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, Book 2)

You can run from the grave, but you can't hide . . .

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won't let her get away again.

I like many things about this series, such as interesting characters and unusual twists on vampire lore, but I strongly dislike listening to the soft porn sex scenes, which make it feel as though I'm reading erotica rather than urban fantasy.

If I was reading the book in print, I could just skip over those sections, but I'm listening to the audiobook version, which makes skipping more tricky. There's nothing more embarrassing than having a graphic sex scene suddenly begin while I'm waiting at the bank teller's window or waiting for a red light with my windows down! The sex scenes are also unrealistically perfect, without so much as a single elbow accidentally bumping into a nose.

If the sex scenes were less frequent, less graphic, and more realistic, I'd give the book four stars.

I absolutely LOVED every single one of these books, except the last one. I Cat and Bones are incredible characters with an interesting dynamic and I loved the creatures that were involved in this series. So good.
