This series was incredible due to the deep dive into the themes of Italian poverty, sexism, classism, criminal activity, and political strife surrounding Napoli in the 50s to 90s. I found the narrator/ protagonist annoying because she had such low self-esteem she never grew out of it. Yet she's a raw character and Lila is too. It offers lessons from true foolish mistakes and a struggle to claw yourself into a better life to learn from within the context of their relationship dynamic. Lila and Lenu's that is being distorted reflections of each other. The books made me cry, grind my teeth in anger, and hope for the better. When the brothers were finally taken care of, it felt like I had been holding my breath for that to finally manifest. Maybe Lila found peace in the end. That's for you to decide as the reader.
