I read this with a 4th grade tutee, and it was one of the more engaging activities we did together. In addition to great stories, there are lots of opportunities to look more closely at the author's art and literary devices. Each chapter is a memoir of a particular dog that meant a lot to Paulsen, beginning in his youth and on into his adulthood. I loved getting to share in Paulsen's love for each dog, and to see how his life was shaped, beautified, and in some cases prolonged by the amazing and unique dogs in his life. Uplifting and genuine. A good read for anyone, dog lover or not.
