I'll write a better review later on, but this book is the best one I've read from this series. It is without a doubt the closest to what the show was. It could easily be an episode from the earlier seasons. The atmosphere is there, the recurring characters are there, and Jessica never felt more like Jessica than in this book. Even the mentions of current technologies and platforms did not spoil my enjoyment, even though I like to think Cabot Cove is somewhat frozen in time.

The mystery is in two parts : a family mystery and a murder mystery. Even though the former was predicatable, the latter has a poignant twist at the end. You can easily follow along. The clues are there but not heavy-handed, just subtle. I could have discovered who the murderer was if I've just paid more attention to some of the details left by th writer. It's just incredible. This is what I call a great Murder Mystery Novel.

I will just say that the addition of some characters here was just not necessary, as they offer nothing, either to the plot or to the story overall. They are merely there to make Jessica and the reader annoyed.
Yes, I'm looking at you, Eve and Aggie.
The reveal of the murderer and the story behind it almost made me cry.

Plus, I enjoy supernatural/horror stories, but not in my Murder, She wrote books. However, this book masterfully plays on the ambiguity, which again is very subtle, that it ended up being enjoyable. A ghost, you say ? Nah, nothing of this sort. But signs from the great beyond, then ? Well, maybe...

As an example, I'll say that the last paragraph made me shiver, not out of fear or dread, but as if I received, just like Jessica, the embrace of long lost soul.
