Moonrise

From Carnegie Award-winning author Sarah Crossan comes a poignant and thought-provoking novel that explores life, death, love and forgiveness.

Seventeen-year-old Joe hasn't seen his brother in ten years. Ed didn't walk out on the family, not exactly. It's something more brutal.

Ed's locked up -- on death row.

Now his execution date has been set, and the clock is ticking. Joe is determined to spend those last weeks with his brother, no matter what other people think ... and no matter whether Ed committed the crime. But did he? And does it matter, in the end?

This poignant, timely, heartbreaking novel asks big questions: What value do you place on life? What can you forgive? And just how do you say goodbye?

At first I was disappointed in this book because I really thought it was going to end differently. But after reading the author's inspiration, I realized that the whole point of the book was to show readers a story that needs to be told but rarely is. Especially with everything going on in the world today, we forget just what happens right under our noses. Innocent people are sentenced to prison or death and their families have to deal with that immense pain. Guilty people are sometimes never even tried for the crimes they committed. So this book brilliantly tells a story of a family dealing with the unimaginable. And I absolutely love that we get to see many different sides throughout this book, from the family, to the prisoner, to even the warden. Not everything is black and white, even though we often make decisions as if it was. Definitely recommend!
