Miracle Creek: A Novel

In a small town in Virginia, a group of people know each other because they’re part of a special treatment center, a hyperbaric chamber that may cure a range of conditions from infertility to autism. But then the chamber explodes, two people die, and it’s clear the explosion wasn’t an accident. Miracle Creek is perfect for book clubs and fans of Liane Moriarty and Celeste Ng.

When I started reading this book, I wasn't sure what to expect. It started out in the first person, and then switched to the third person, necessarily, given the depths of the universal lying that is at the center of this book. No one can be believed and it feels as though the truth is never going to be told, until, eventually, we learn the truth all at once, but too late. Those who deserve to be punished, mostly, are punished, and there are a lot of guilty what ifs. It's entertaining and informative and well written and a quick read.
I was drawn to this book because it won an Edgar Award for best debut novel and I tend to really like Edgar Award books as they are typically well done mystery/thrillers. Angie Kim does an amazing job weaving together a murder trial with themes of motherhood and immigration so it’s not your typical mystery which I loved. Be sure to read all of the author’s notes and highlights on Goodreads. It truly added to the enjoyment of the book. Highly recommend!
Very emotionally driven. Hard topics to deal with. Fast and easy read. Loved it.
Rather depressing, frankly. Some beautiful writing, but if you're looking for a happy ending, this ain't it.
Beautifully written with surprises around every corner!
