Meet Cute

"As charming as its title, but it's also so much more ... Fans of Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date and Helen Hoang's The Kiss Quotient will love Meet Cute." --The Washington Independent Review of Books
Kailyn Flowers was always calm, rational, and controlled--until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. Then she did the unthinkable: She became a mortifying fangirl in five seconds flat, which may or may not have included professing her undying love. And oddly, he didn't run away. In fact, their meet cute led to a friendship she never saw coming. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming, either...
Now Dax needs her help. As guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister, he's in way over his head. And though Kailyn hasn't forgiven Dax, she isn't heartless enough to make him fend for himself, either. Soon their friendly meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him?

This story follows Kailyn and Dax, college rivals. Dax was a teenage actor in Kailyn's favorite show growing up. They experienced one of the most embarrassing meet-cutes in college. They become kinda friends and rivals in college. Then something happens that makes Kailyn hate Dax. Fast forward, who ends up in Kailyn's legal office? None other than Dax. Tragedy occurs causing Dax to be the sole guardian of his teenage sister, Emme. Kailyn gets pulled into Dax and Emme’s lives due to legal issues.
This book plays with the tropes of enemies to lovers and second-chance romance. I am not the biggest fan of second-chance romance tropes. However, this book did the trope well. I often do not like them because there is always a big secret that was a misunderstanding which caused them to not be together. The execution of this trope was not bad, it's been done better but it has been done far worse.
I audiobook this book, and would suggest it in this format. I could tell that the writing style would have bothered me more if I was reading it. Cliche and silly dialogue at times. My favorite character was Dax’s little sister, Emme. I found myself rooting for Dax and Kailyn because of Emme.
I could see people’s expectations being misdirected by the cover and title of this book. I would have titled this book Fan Girl. The cute cover leads the reader to think this book will be more cutesy than it is.
The quote you see the most with this book is, “No one ever means to fall in love” I kinda hate this quote. A LOT of people mean to fall in love. Evidence by the love industry e.g, dating apps, rom-com movies, and books. I get that the character/author means you don’t necessarily plan on when who, and how you fall in love but just happens when it happens. It read like a line written to be quoted.
