Masters of Death: A Novel

An instant New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Indie bestseller

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six comes Masters of Death, a story about vampires, ghosts, and death itself.

*Now newly revised and edited with additional content, this hardcover edition includes new interior illustrations from Little Chmura and special illustrated endpapers from artist Polarts.*

There is a game that the immortals play.

There is only one rule: Don't lose.

Viola Marek is a struggling real estate agent, and a vampire. But her biggest problem currently is that the house she needs to sell is haunted. The ghost haunting the mansion has been murdered, and until he can solve the mystery of how he died, he refuses to move on.

Fox D'Mora is a medium, and though he is also most-definitely a shameless fraud, he isn't entirely without his uses--seeing as he's actually the godson of Death.

When Viola seeks out Fox to help her with the ghost infestation, he becomes inextricably involved in a quest that neither he nor Vi expects (or wants). But with the help of an unruly poltergeist, a demonic personal trainer, a sharp-voiced angel, a love-stricken reaper, and a few mindfulness-practicing creatures, Vi and Fox soon discover the difference between a mysterious lost love and an annoying dead body isn't nearly as distinct as they thought.

Kinda messy and fantastical but I really enjoyed the storytelling and all of the characters had very strong, entertaining personalities :)

8.5/10 The past is passed… And so is my time reading this book, which I really enjoyed. The writing was very quirked up, so it was tricky to understand sometimes, but the quirk was good. Appreciated the quirk. I loved the ensamble cast, everyone was great. Not sure I have a favorite character tho, which is kind of a shame. The combined mythologies were really cool. The backstories of all the characters tied together really well. I enjoyed. Solid read.

I’m going to be completely honest. I felt a little misled with the intro in the back. I was led to believe this story was going to be about a ghost, his real estate agent trying to sell his house, and the medium she sought out to help the ghost move on. While I knew there were going to be other characters I wasn’t aware of how centralized all of their stories were. The shift from different perspectives and all of the individual stories was a little much for me. I couldn’t concentrate on one thing and as much as I liked the godling and fox, I assumed our main characters were again going to be the main two in the intro. I did love all of their relationships and I loved death. I think my favorite pair were the angel and the reaper. Such a perfect match. Definitely loved all of the different personalities!

I cant seem to get into this book. It's too wordy for me, the descriptions just go on a little while. I might try again some time but setting aside for now.
