If I could name ONE thing that freaked me out as a kid, Bloody Mary would be IT. The "legend" of Bloody Mary has haunted generations, so I was all over this one. Who doesn't like a good freak out, right!?
The story as a whole, was fantastic. You have four girls summoning Mary, the mystery behind who Mary actually is and how to get rid of her. There were many creepy scenes that had me walking fast away from mirrors, and the intensity of it was spot on. The intricate details and description of Mary leaves nothing to your imagination on just how horrific it would be to see her. She isn't just freaky lookin, she is ruthless. I loved it.
One thing about ghost stories that has always bothered me was the lack of public knowledge. Meaning, it was always odd to me that only 1 or maybe just a few people knew what was going on. Even though Shauna was Mary's "quest" she had no qualms about hurting others around Shauna or making herself known. No one was safe from her, and that adds to the terror of the situation as a whole. And there are some that don't make it out.
As I mentioned before, we learn about Mary's life slowly as the story progresses. While I was entertained by this and was immersed in it, I didn't get enough to satisfy my curiosity. It was just enough to get a look at her life. I wanted more. Since this is a series, I'm sure more will come out later on. Which brings me to my peeve

This could have been a solid, strong stand-alone. I may not be seeing the whole picture and story-arc could be larger than I believe it is, but what is with this trend?
Overall
I quite enjoyed this. It's well written, fascinating and creepy as hell. Even though I am a little perturbed it's a series, I will read the next book. Highly recommend!
