Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels)

The fourth Kate Daniels novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author who “defines urban fantasy” (Fresh Fiction).

Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle—especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community.

When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years—and rode to war at the side of Kate’s father.

This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle. Because this time, Kate will be taking on family...

Really loved this edition to the magic series. I love that Kate has the guts to stick to her moral code, despite all the training shes had that says different. This is also the volume where she and curran get together officially and I adored that. It was exactly how they should have sealed the deal.

More like 3.5. This, like all the other Kate Daniel’s books I have read is an easy, lower stakes, urban fantasy with a decent amount of romance thrown in. I always find these books to be great at pulling me from a slump because I know what to expect from them. Are they my favorite? No. Do I enjoy them? Yes. Will I finish the series? At some point.

This installment in particular felt very sophomore-y. Like they were setting up for something big coming. I love the main pair, and find Kate’s fiery personality relatable and nice. Also just in general fuck The Order. They can’t gtfo in my opinion. I look forward to the rest of the series.

Enjoyable. Solid characters. But still too much Epic Battle for my taste. She seems to fight the ultimate bad guy in every novel. And I get that a lot of people like the romance angle in these books, but it just doesn't work for me. I find the relationship to be forced and kind of creepy. I don't need to know about naked dinners and catnip. Also, Andrews knows nothing about grooming a poodle.
