What you could be if you were not afraid…”
The politics in this second book are even more realistic with the time period than book one. Now that Anna’s just broken the binding, and has found herself trying to navigate the world around her after everything she’s known is gone, she’s decided to do whatever it takes to make sure that the choice she made to break the binding is worth it.
Eves does a wonderful job showing Anna’s struggle with where she stands in society. Before Anna broke the binding she knew exactly where she stood, and that was on the outside as baron, one without magic. Anna’s character has so much growth in this second book, especially when it comes to inserting herself into the political sphere. She doesn’t know who to trust and who not to trust. She’s also dealing with the loss of Matyas and the fact that he is gone because of the choice she was forced to make. Because of the secrets she has to keep about the role she played in the bindings downfall, allies are few. When an someone comes into her life and wants to teach her how to embrace who she really is, she is determined to make sure that this time around she makes the right decisions, not only for herself but for those she loves and has lost.
We do get a second POV in this book and that is Matyas! He’s on a journey of his own to get back to the world outside of the binding. No one knows that he’s survived and even though its unclear what his role is he is determined to find a way back to Anna and his family. He meets some very unique and interesting characters who help him and hinder him. Matyas is probably my favorite character of this series, I mean he becomes known as the King of Crows, who wouldn’t fall in love with that! I can’t wait for you to get to know him in this book!
