Kings of the Wyld (The Band, 1)

A retired group of legendary mercenaries get the band back together for one last impossible mission in this award-winning debut epic fantasy.
"Fantastic, funny, ferocious." -- Sam Sykes
Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best, the most feared and renowned crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.
Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk, or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay's door with a plea for help -- the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for.
It's time to get the band back together.

The definition of fun, in my opinion. I use this book to get folks interested in fantasy again. It's a fantastic palate cleanser between all the serious books these days. Plenty of laughs and adventure to be had with anecdotes aplenty for you to make others smile.
This book was hilarious and entertaining
I really wanted to like this but it fell flat. I listened to the audiobook and, while the narrator was great, would recommend reading the physical copy to make the characters more memorable.
There were too many characters that ran together and made it hard to really care about the main core group. Mook was the only character that differed in personality. The others only differed in their backstories. There were also too many plot events that required long sections of unrelated historical explanations. There were moments when I didn't know where the characters were or how they had gained items or new crew members.

The plot had potential. Wished the characters had more depth to them. They were cool in a superficial sense accompanied by a cool concept of a band of mercenaries on one final hoorah. It also felt like the build up to the climax was far too dragged out and mundane for the short climactic pay off at the end.
Perfect adorable fantasy (besides the mood of cover). I loved this book!
