Kingdom of the Wicked (Kingdom of the Wicked, 1)

From the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series comes a new blockbuster series...

Two sisters.
One brutal murder.
A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself...
And an intoxicating romance.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe - witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin...desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister's killer and to seek vengeance at any cost--even if it means using dark magic that's been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked--princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia's side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women's murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems...

Felt like it was poorly written the main character was annoying as heck and all the other character debts were paper thin.

I was slow getting into this book in the beginning until I got halfway through then the story started to pick up. The writing style was somewhat simple and the world-building wasn't as in-depth as expected it to be. However, once the story began to take off, I was hooked. I loved Emilia's character building going from a shy introvert to a demon-hunting, vengeful driven character, doing things that she never would've dreamed she'd do.

The slow-burning romance between Emilia and Wrath was perfect and I love the "enemies-to-lovers" trope, and the tension between them was just right and didn't seem forced or overdone. I loved the few romantic encounters that happened with them.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book and finished the book faster once the story got moving and I will keep reading the series to see what happens next.
