Keep Me (Sinful Manor, 1)

Their marriage of convenience is anything but...

All Killian Barclay wants is to be left the hell alone. He's had enough heartache to last a lifetime, and he has no more need for love--earning him the reputation of a broody Scot and eventually turning his famous ancestral home into a den of iniquity. It doesn't take long for tales of his raunchy house parties to reach the rest of his family, though, inspiring them to hatch a plan to shake Killian out of his routine.

New Yorker Sylvie Devereaux is tough as nails--as the daughter of famous yet neglectful parents, she's grown a hard shell and keeps everyone at arm's length. So when she sneaks into Barclay Manor during a trip to Scotland to get a glimpse of a famous heirloom, she doesn't anticipate facing off against the brutish, maddening highlander who lives there. And she certainly didn't expect to ever see the bastard again.

Yet just weeks later, she's approached by Killian's family with a proposal--move to Scotland and marry Killian to improve his playboy reputation, and after one year, she'll walk away with ten million dollars. Sylvie agrees, even knowing that their plan is more deceptive than he realizes. But as she grows closer to Killian and the end of their year together, she has to decide: Is the love of a good man with a dark soul worth keeping, or is she willing to break Killian's heart now that it's well and truly hers?

Not my favorite but I had a good time and enjoyed the character growth.

There should be a warning on audiobooks with dual narration if they aren't fully dual. As in the male and female narrators do all of their respective character's dialog; especially in romance. Nothing will turn me off faster than hearing a female trying to pull off a sexy Scotsman in the middle of a
S e X scene. Like no, please just don't. Because that is exactly what happens in the audiobook for Keep Me, I could not sink my teeth in to it as much than if I had just read the book and played out the dialog in my own head. Both narrators did great when it came to voicing their own characters though.

Aside from the narration that didn't work for me, I felt like the book didn't live up to its billing. I didn't find it all that sinful or dark, and felt it lacking in the bedroom department.

In the end this one was okay for me. I don't regret giving it my time, but I won't continue on with the series.

I simply adore great stories with very imperfect MCs. Sylvie & Killian just soared to the top of my list of fav book couples. Gods I just loved how feisty & stubborn she is, and how brutish but tender Killian is. Both come with baggage and unresolved trauma…and there’s no easy “love fixes everything”, which I appreciated so much because in the real world, our shit doesn’t just go away once we fall in love. Thank you Sara Cate for keeping it real while also always delivering swoon-worthy spicy romances!

This book was fine. It was hard to get into the start of the book because the FMC was so unlikeable, which was totally understandable as we wanted to see growth over the course of the book. I did like the growth of Sylvie and Killian, both separately and together. They both overcame obstacles to create a real relationship. I also liked that the book and relationship took place over the course of a year, which made their connection seem more substantial.

I know one of the descriptions of the book is BDSM and while there were aspects of that - Sylvie is tied to the bed once and Killian spanks her and has sex with her in front of his friends - I wouldn’t say that’s a real BDSM romance book. I’d call it BDSM light lol.

I don’t think I’ll pick up another book by this author, but it was an interesting read if you like Scottish, marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers tropes. There was a mix of things I enjoyed in the book and a mix of things I didn't like in the book which leaves me with a 3 star score.
