In the Shadow of the Banyan

I knew nothing about the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979, when an estimated 2 million lost their lives. After reading the book, I don't know much more about it. And I had a hard time believing the narrator was a 7 yr old child. She seemed much older by her thoughts and actions. I also did not like all the mythical legends and poetry passed down from her father. I liked the first part of the book better, before they were forced from their home. After that, it was just too slow for me.
