In an Instant

An Amazon Charts bestseller.

A deeply moving story of carrying on even when it seems impossible.

Life is over in an instant for sixteen-year-old Finn Miller when a devastating car accident tumbles her and ten others over the side of a mountain. Suspended between worlds, she watches helplessly as those she loves struggle to survive.

Impossible choices are made, decisions that leave the survivors tormented with grief and regret. Unable to let go, Finn keeps vigil as they struggle to reclaim their shattered lives. Jack, her father, who seeks vengeance against the one person he can blame other than himself; her best friend, Mo, who bravely searches for the truth as the story of their survival is rewritten; her sister Chloe, who knows Finn lingers and yearns to join her; and her mother, Ann, who saved them all but is haunted by her decisions. Finn needs to move on, but how can she with her family still in pieces?

Heartrending yet ultimately redemptive, In an Instant is a story about the power of love, the meaning of family, and carrying on...even when it seems impossible.

This book sucked me in from the start. I don't usually like books with a ghost or narrator too outside of a story but in this case it added so much to have Finn know all of the characters but not be in the story but to very much be in the story. Well done!

All in all, this was a very interesting read. I loved the perspective of the narrative. But... I had a hard time with a couple of things. First, Ann, the mother, did not acknowledge the fact that when Finn dies, she was not speaking to her over a fender-bender. She ignored her the entire drive to Big Bear, and doesn't seem to be too upset when she dies. Never does she show remorse for not speaking a word to her daughter before she passed. Afterward, she doesn't act as though she was missing a daughter or that she was giving her the silent treatment up until the accident.

Another is... are we going to overlook the fact that Ann was having an affair with Bob? It apparently happened before the accident even took place and kept going after. She was even thinking she was in love with Bob, but the second she hears about what he did to Oz, she runs back to her husband making Jack feel like the bad guy. She was CHEATING on her husband, falling in love, and it's the husband's fault? Is it that she couldn't bear being alone, because that is pretty messed up.
