I stumbled upon this light novel by accident while shopping for Manga with my oldest son.
As I was browsing the shelves searching for a specific series he was after I saw this title and thought it so bizarre.
When I pulled the book from the shelf I was shocked to see such a beautiful cover and upon reading the blurb... I was sold.
My 14 year old son read the book first. He had nothing but great things to say about it, even telling me that it moved him to tears which is really something because he doesn't usually get emotional with books and movies.
It's charming, funny, moving and unique; a tearjerker that takes me right back to high school.
At times it gets a little choppy but I think that has everything to do with the translation from Japanese to English rather than any fault of the author or translator.
It's a beautiful story wonderfully told and I can't recommend it enough.
I would like to read the Manga at some point in the future and my son and I will be watching the film soon!
“Living...... Means having bonds with others. Paying attention to someone. Loving someone. Hating someone. Having fun being with someone. Taking someone’s hand. That’s what it means to live. If you’re all alone, you cant tell that you exist. Your relationship with others, is what defines being alive. I know my mind exists, since I can interact with others. I know my body exists, because others touch me. That’s where the purpose of being alive comes from. Just like we’ve been chosen to live out this moment here and now.”
