Let’s have some of those uncomfortable conversations.

They’re back!! Lucien, Oliver, Brigitte, Tom, James Royce-Royce, Pryia, and yes, even Alex are back and in the mix of shenanigans. Two years after Lucien (Luc) and Oliver (Ollie) met and fake dated only to become truly in love and dating, we find them stronger than ever. In fact, Luc has come a long way from his self-loathing and self-destructive ways and developed a healthy relationship with Ollie, his friends, and his adorable mother, Oldie.

As Luc and Ollie both grow together as a couple, they attend three weddings together. At the weddings, Luc learns forgiveness, being a true friend, and even coping with the idiosyncracies of those who you feel may not have much in common. Since attending these weddings, we see how comfortable Luc is with the gay community whereas Ollie does not, for he does not feel they represent him or feel a part of their world. In stark contrast, Ollie prefers the old Cathedrals and the old-fashioned weddings much to Luc’s chagrin.

The arc of the story is when they face how they feel towards their respective fathers and come to terms with those bottled-up feelings.

I do recommend you read the first novel, Boyfriend Material but you can still read this and still get the gist of what is going on, fairly quickly. Reading the first novel will give you a better understanding and make this story richer.

I truly enjoyed the banter between scene-stealing Oldie and Luc. While she may at times seem flighty, she is very astute and is the voice of reason when Luc needs to hear the truth, whether he wants to or not. I also appreciated how Luc and Ollie navigate through their relationship when they may seem at odds with each other’s points of view. What surprised me greatly is I was expecting this book to be a light read. It contains some heavy and much-needed conversations about heated topics between the characters. For that, my 3 1/2 stars were firmly bumped up to a solid 4.

I finally understand the irritated reviews. I was completely happy with the book for the first 85% and then the ending was fully annoying.

Husband Material is like the most unique take on a romance sequel i’ve ever read and the ending was something i’m not quite sure how i feel about still. It was very Alexis hall in the way of different types of rep but like also very just kinda like wow. i can’t believe that’s how that series is probably ending
