How to Fake It in Hollywood: A Novel

A talented Hollywood starlet and a reclusive A-lister enter into a fake relationship . . . and discover that their feelings might be more than a PR stunt in this sexy debut for fans of Beach Read and The Unhoneymooners.

"A raw, character-driven, and heart-touching read . . . I absolutely loved it."--Elena Armas, New York Times bestselling author of The Spanish Love Deception

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Cosmopolitan

Grey Brooks is on a mission to keep her career afloat now that the end of her long-running teen TV show has her (unsuccessfully) pounding the pavement again. With a life-changing role on the line, she's finally desperate enough to agree to her publicist's scheme: fake a love affair with a disgraced Hollywood heartthrob who needs the publicity, but for very different reasons.

Ethan Atkins just wants to be left alone. Between his high-profile divorce, struggles with drinking, and grief over the death of his longtime creative partner and best friend, Ethan has slowly let himself fade into the background. But if he ever wants to produce the last movie he and his partner wrote together, Ethan needs to clean up his reputation and step back into the spotlight. A gossip-inducing affair with a gorgeous actress might be just the ticket, even if it's the last thing he wants to do.

Though their juicy public relationship is less than perfect behind the scenes, it doesn't take long before Grey and Ethan's sizzling chemistry starts to feel like more than just an act. But after decades in a ruthless industry that requires bulletproof emotional armor to survive, are they too used to faking it to open themselves up to the real thing?

I used to love reading romance novels but I stopped at some point in the last decade or so. I picked this one up trying to get back into the genre and I'm happy that I did. This is a story about two people who think they're broken and the way that they help each other get back to a life that feels fulfilling. I enjoyed the author's writing style and the story was decently entertaining. I appreciate that the author didn't feel the need to write super graphic sex scenes (as those always feel like the writer is trying too hard). Overall I would definitely pick up other novels by this author, especially when I'm looking for a light hearted easy read to cheer me up.

I really enjoyed the writing style but I absolutely despised every single character besides Grey. I get it, it was a story about addiction, but I don't get how everyone, knowing the state he was in, could even suggest to Grey to go back to him. At one point in the story everyone was an enabler and at times Grey too risked going down the same road; which I really appreciated, the storyline waa great and the characters, although I previously mentioned my dislike for them were extremely real. The story itself was great. What ruined it for me is her taking him back after everything. If the book ended with her on way to learn how to embrace and love herself after everything that shes been trough, if she took what happened as a lesson to grow and let that particular love story stay in the past and not necessarely regret it but learn from it it would have been absoluetely amazing.
My biggest problem and the reason as to why I gave this 3 stars was that this is supposed to be a love story, and I read my fair share of disturped, morally grey, questionable amd outright insane love interests and stories and I never batted an eyelash. This as far as tortured here goes it is written so realistically that it was extremely difficult and in the end impossible to sympatize for him and root for their relationships. He has 2 daughters and mentioned themca grand total of four times, if he were to actively try to reach out and get custody or smt I would get it, but he doesn't, I think in the end he is an egocentric and egotistical character, who obsessed over this poor girl and when in the end he gets to rehab he doesnt mention his little ones as one of the reasoning but rather Grey.
I dont like him.
Like at all.
He was an asshole.
But I will read other books from this author, cause shes amazing.
