#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ·  INSTANT INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

From Dr. Nicole LePera, creator of "the holistic psychologist"—the online phenomenon with more than two million Instagram followers—comes a revolutionary approach to healing that harnesses the power of the self to produce lasting change.

As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole LePera often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients—and for herself—she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual wellness that equips people with the interdisciplinary tools necessary to heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she’d learned with others—and soon “The Holistic Psychologist” was born.

Now, Dr. LePera is ready to share her much-requested protocol with the world. In How to Do the Work, she offers both a manifesto for SelfHealing as well as an essential guide to creating a more vibrant, authentic, and joyful life. Drawing on the latest research from a diversity of scientific fields and healing modalities, Dr. LePera helps us recognize how adverse experiences and trauma in childhood live with us, resulting in whole body dysfunction—activating harmful stress responses that keep us stuck engaging in patterns of codependency, emotional immaturity, and trauma bonds. Unless addressed, these self-sabotaging behaviors can quickly become cyclical, leaving people feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, and unwell.

In How to Do the Work, Dr. LePera offers readers the support and tools that will allow them to break free from destructive behaviors to reclaim and recreate their lives. Nothing short of a paradigm shift, this is a celebration of empowerment that will forever change the way we approach mental wellness and self-care.

Definitely a hard read and have to be in the right mind space to read it. This book took me a couple months to read because I had to keep putting it down. I also realized I needed to be in a peaceful place like near the water to read it that helped me process it much better!!

DNF. Polyvagal theory has been pretty thoroughly criticized, and reading this book, it’s clear why. Everything is cherry picked & oversimplified, to an extent that I actually (as a reader) found a bit insulting. I was only reading it as an abstract exercise, so that I would know the ins & outs, because there are actually several people in my life who buy into this stuff. But I have too much other reading that I actually want to do; I’m not going to bother finishing this. Frankly, overhyped BS that it is, I don’t really see that it’s doing much harm, so what do I care?

This book was amazing!! Not only did it reference to other books that I’ve currently purchased and read such as “The body keeps score” by Bessie Van Der Kolk, MD, but it taught me a lot about myself. Who I was was, where my internal feelings came from, why I’m failing in certain departments of my life, relationships boundaries healing childhood trauma and most of all how to find my true self. See we as humans crave social attention from our peers and people around us that is something natural. However being able to express ourselves and controller emotions a big part in finding who we are. But in order to do that we must investigate the trauma that we have been through in our lives or are currently experiencing. Help me with meditation emotional regulation being a better parent and just so much more than I could talk on and on about. For me this book was amazing because I had a new I always love to read but I felt like I never knew what to read and that the books that I did read were meaningless and purposeless to my life and didn’t help me apply any factors to my life to become the person that I sought out to be. Reading this book question meant to say help me become successful build better study habits be more patient and understanding. Also to see things on many different perspectives and understand that if I didn’t like some thing I had the power to change it and if I couldn’t change it that I needed to change my attitude. Your environment is crucial and who use around yourself and open up your inner self to is very sacert. I have been very isolated against friends and family because of things that I experience as a child and being afraid of being hurt and traumatized all over again but this book help me realize that not facing something when I went through, made me realize that I was only reliving the trauma and not healing from the trauma. This book help me understand me and what I love and what I enjoy and how to become a better me and how to focus on the things that are most important to me.
