"Hostage" by Clare Mackintosh is a gripping psychological thriller set on a nonstop flight from London to Sydney. Flight attendant Mina is working the historic journey when she receives a chilling ultimatum: help hijack the plane, or her daughter will be killed. As the hours tick by and tensions soar, Mina must make an unthinkable choice—save hundreds of passengers or protect her own child. Twisting between multiple perspectives, the novel explores sacrifice, motherhood, and the far-reaching impact of terror. I really enjoyed Hostage. It was suspenseful, fast-paced, and had just the right amount of emotional weight. From the first few chapters, I was hooked. The tension builds steadily, and I kept asking myself, what would I do if I were in that situation? It’s one of those books that pulls you into a moral grey zone and doesn’t let go. I thought I had it all figured out at one point—but wow, I was so wrong. The twists completely caught me off guard, in the best way. I liked how the story unfolded from different perspectives—it kept things interesting without feeling overwhelming. Mina, the main character, felt real and relatable, which made the whole situation hit even harder. If you like thrillers that make you think while keeping you on edge, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

This was amazing. Can you imagine being in a hostage situation? This book will suck you in so much that you will feel like you living the experience. I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of it.
I liked the main character, Mina, I could totally understand the reasons she made each decision she made, it was tense, realistic and brilliant!
It was written really well and I could imagine this being made into a movie. It really was that good.

Maybe 2.5 starts. I just couldn't bring myself to really care what was happening to these characters and their decisions didn't seem to make any sense.

The book starts off slow but then gets you hooked. So stay with it. If you're going to be traveling on a plane anytime soon, it's not the book to read.
