I thought it was a fantastic thriller, probably my favorite I read this year! I started off listening to it but decided to get the book due to all the pictures being described. I preferred reading it over listening because the pictures made the experience a lot spookier in my opinion!
I have never read a “scary” thriller per say, but this one had me on the edge of my seat but also wanting to cover my eyes cause the drawings creeped me out

I know I don’t predict a lot of plot twists, but with this one?? I was so far off it’s embarrassing. Jason Rekulak did such an amazing job blending psychological thriller with just enough paranormal to make me question my own sanity. Like… am I okay??
My favorite part—and I know I’m not alone here—was the inclusion of the actual drawings throughout the book! That visual element made the story feel way more immersive, like I was uncovering the mystery right alongside Mallory. Honestly, it gave the book such a unique vibe and made it feel like more of an experience than just a read.
If you enjoy creepy kid vibes, unreliable characters, buried secrets, and a story that blurs the line between real and supernatural, this one’s for you. Also perfect for people who like books that are fast-paced, visual, and a little off in the best way.
I was having a great time with this book, but then ending threw me off. I don’t know how to feel or what to think.
Good twists and turns I surely didn’t expect.
Each twist was more shocking than the next. The only reason this took me more than one sitting to read is because I started it late in the evening. This book was a page turner and had me in a chokehold. Highly recommend.
