It was okay. Quick read, but not really for me. Very typical story line. Couple of twists at the end, but nothing worth reading the second and third books for.

So this book turned out to be almost exactly what I had anticipated. Hex Hall was a funny and cute twist on the overdone "school for magical kids" angle. Sophie is sent to live in "juvy for monsters", as she calls it, but nothing is ever that simple and she soon learns a lot more about herself than she ever thought was possible.

I may not have adored it or hated it, but it's definitely worth the read for paranormal YA fans.

I listened to this book as narrated by Cris Dukehart and she did a wonderful job. She made it easy to recognize the different characters without overdoing voice changes and the southern accent was great.

I was a little taken aback by how many times I found myself laughing at the situations Sophie found herself in. I found it incredibly easy to picture all of the scenes in my head. Especially the beginning. The book started off with some serious kick landing Sophie into a boarding school for the magically dangerous.

I'm wasn't a fan of Archer as a character. He's the "Resident heart throb" and Sophie's crush. He didn't add much to the story for me and to my dismay I feel he will continue to muck things up in the romance department. Cal, the local groundskeeper, on the other hand was way more intriguing to me. Jenny, Sophie's roommate and the only vampire at Hecate Hall, add plenty of depth to the roster.

The writing compliments Sophie by giving the reader the feel of reading a young girls diary in real time. It was perfect for Hex Hall and even left me cringing during the awkward parts.

The downside to this book would be the overused aspects for this genre. Hex Hall became a Mean Girls meets Harry Potter, with quite a few of the same details. School for magical children, resident ghosts, forbidden forest, and of course that one special student who doesn't know they're special. Then you add in the trio of stuck up bi-I mean witches, and it's not a very new story.

Most of the plot was predictable without a lot of surprise. The only part that got me was the very end. It was perfect by all means, but I'm going to continue the series to see how things go for Sophie. I may not have adored it or hated it, but it's definitely worth the read for paranormal YA fans.

After a spell went wrong sixteen year old Sophie was sent to Hex Hall, an isolated school for witches, faeries and shapeshifters, until she was eighteen. Sophie's classmates started to get hurt and her new roommate, a vampire, was being blamed for it.

I liked the characters. Jenna the best friend, a vampire who liked pink. Archer, the guy, who teased Sophie. Elodie, the clique leader, even though she was the antithesis of the main character she wasn't that bad.

Sophie didn't dwell on why she was sent to the school, this I appreciated. There was teenager angst, but it the main character was supposed to be sixteen so I figure that is okay.

I read it very fast and I didn't get bogged down at any point. For some reason I expected to and since I wasn't I was pleasantly surprised.
