I was hoping to like this a lot more since I loved The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell and The World Played Chess by this author. This isn't the usual genre that I read...it is a legal thriller with loads of police procedural, courtroom drama and a bit of family dynamics thrown in too. It felt like very much like John Grishom. Anyway...Keera Duggan joins her father's law firm after a failed relationship with her senior colleague in another firm. Her dad, Patrick (Patsy) Duggan is known as the Irish Brawler in legal circles, also has his own battles with alcoholism and his family spends much time trying to keep him out of trouble and sober. Keera lands her first case as a defense attorney when she is retained by wealthy Vince LaRussa who is accused of murdering his disabled wife. The prosecutor just happens to be Miller Ambrose, Keera's old boyfriend.
As the story progresses, many things are revealed, and Keera receives clues like a scavenger hunt through emails from an unknown person. There are so many characters to keep straight, and suspension of disbelief is definitely needed for this plot. It was entertaining but I probably won't read any more in the series. I'll stick to Dugoni's standalone books.
