Harmony House

Carrie meets American Horror Story meets The Shining in this terrifying YA horror novel from the author of Tweak and Schizo.

Something’s not right in Beach Haven.

Jen Noonan’s father thinks a move to Harmony House is the key to salvation, but to everyone who has lived there before, it is a portal to pure horror.

After her alcoholic mother’s death, Jen’s father cracked. He dragged Jen to a dilapidated old manor on the shore of New Jersey to start their new lives—but Jen can tell that the place has an unhappy history. She can feel it the same way she can feel her anger flowing out of her, affecting the world in strange ways she can’t explain.

But Harmony House is more than just a creepy old estate. It’s got a chilling past—and the more Jen discovers its secrets, the more the house awakens. Visions of a strange boy who lived in the house long ago follow Jen wherever she goes, and her father’s already-fragile sanity disintegrates before her eyes. As the forces in the house join together to terrorize Jen, she must find a way to escape the past she didn’t know was haunting her—and the mysterious and terrible power she didn’t realize she had.

FULL REVIEW
This book was beyond weird - and nothing at all what I thought it would be.

I was excited to read Harmony House; simply because I have been in the mood for a good horror story, which is weird and not like me at all but I digress. This book, while spooky at times, did not make sense and a lot of things HAPPENING were never explained.

One of the main things (but not the only thing) about this book that was frustrating was the heavy religious aspect. Most of it revolved around religion, and while it wasn't "preachy" I didn't care for it all. The flashbacks were interesting - but overall didn't make a lick of sense. They would pop in randomly, which could be the intention since Jen isn't the most reliable narrator.

I think the writing as a whole created a line of disconnect. The characters were underdeveloped. There were plot lines thrown in for convenience sake and that little "twist" there? Yeah, figured that out early on. Just about every question you will have about this book; the WHYS and the HOWS and the WHATS will be left unanswered.  Why was the pregnancy so important? What the hell WAS she? What happened to Colin?? And WTF is with the prologue? Also, I was majorly disappointed because It wasn't the house at all, it was the people. I thought this was one of those super spooky houses that was haunted and ALL THE THINGS HAPPEN to the people who live there. Nope.

I don't know - just a lot of this book either didn't make sense or rubbed me the wrong way. I can't say I would recommend this one - but maybe if you want to kill some time?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I received this book for free from The Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Too many plot holes. Not enough horror.
