IHNMAIMS is peak sci-fi horror. The concept is horrifying, the situation of the characters is bleak, the ending is gloomy, and the villain is a supercomputer who despises humans and takes joy in torturing the last five alive.

Ted's sacrifice was noble, and I wished he'd been able to go out with the other survivors instead of being condemned to be conscious but essentially immobile. Death being the good option should reveal how bad A.M is. It's a powerful supercomputer designed to continuously learn during the Cold War, ultimately gaining sentience, yet remaining helpless and without freedom. When his other toys are taken away, he punished Ted with the same fate that led him to being so hateful.

I normally like stories with happy endings, and this one was anything but. It's disturbing to a degree, and it sticks with you. Even so, this was a good read. I would've given the story 5/5 stars if it weren't for the portrayal of the only female character. Given the time in which it was written, it was expected, and Ellen is still portrayed as intelligent. She's the only one to catch onto Ted's plan, but prior to the end, Ted's envious that he isn't the one she enjoys having sex with, leading to him resenting her. At one point, he goes on a mental tangent of how much of a slut she is, even though her designation as, well, a sex object for the four men isn't her choice.

TLTR: IHNMAIMS is a chilling 4/5 sci-fi story that sticks with you, though hints of sexism prevent it from being a 5/5
